conflicts of interest in TL gamesProposalsIndex ->

Now, I wish to raise an issue about conflicts of interest in TL games.

In TL 49 I ended up playing against the captain of my own team. I propose that if such a case occurs that the team captain be required to stand aside and get someone else to play.

I guess that does not happen too often, but yes, I agree it would be better to avoid such situations. I think it is currently not allowed to be a player of two teams in the same section. I would go even further than you propose and extend that rule to disallow being a player *and* a captain of two different teams in the same section.

A trickier situation is when a player being a member of one super-team in one section, plays against a sub-team of his own super-team in another section. That actually happened to you in Round 7 when you played against AllGoodPeople_D while you were a member of AllGoodPeople_C. (Please don't take this example personally, I am just choosing an example that I noticed, not suggesting anything!) I think these situations should be avoided, too. Although I am not sure whether they need to be regulated by the rules or not. In case of my team, it was just enough that my player noticed such situation and asked me not to field him.

I don't think there should be a rule about being a captain and play for another team in the same section. But I probaly should have asked not to play that round.

I am not suggesting that people would tank a game. But I think that any perception of doing so is unfair to both players.

Given the volunteer nature by TL staff, programmers, and captains, I would dislike restricting play which could reduce the free hours that these people donate in making TL work. Efforts to pair such "conflicts" early in regular season rounds are made to minimize the illusion of collusion, but that is as far as I see things going for now.
