Section 1 - Definitions (final version)

A. The terms and phrases listed below in this subsection have very specific meanings in FICS TeamLeague and are used throughout the body of the By-Laws without further explanation.

i. Adjourned Game - A game that has been started and interrupted or not completed.
ii. Away Team - The team that has the black pieces for board 1 (see also Home Team).
iii. Board Assignments - The list of four players selected by the team captain, who will be playing for the round specified.
iv. Bye - A pairing status for a team or a player where no opponent is available for a given round.
v. Default Board Assignment - The board assignment submitted by the team captain before the start of the tourney to be used as default.
vi. FICS Server Time - Pacific Time corresponding to FICS server location. FICS server time is the designated time for TeamLeague scheduling.
vii. First Contact Deadline - The time, upon expiration of which players shall have started to communicate in the game forum. This usually is every Thursday on 2200 FICS time unless specified otherwise (see also Second Contact Deadline).
viii. Fixed Rating - A player's standard rating at the time they are officially entered into a tournament. Ratings are fixed between tournaments, and are based on players' previous rating record.
ix. Game Point (GP) - The point awarded to the winner of a played or set game. One-half GP is awarded to each player in a drawn or set draw game (see also Match Point).
x. Home Team - The team that has the white pieces for board 1 (see also Away Team).
xi. Match Point (MP) - The point awarded to the team with the greater number of game points in a match. One-half MP is awarded to each team when the final GP score is tied at greater than 0-0 (see also Game Point).
xii. Pairing Posting Deadline - The time when Tournament Director posts the pairings and starts a new round. This usually is every Tuesday on 2200 FICS time unless specified otherwise.
xiii. Playoff Rounds - The rounds played, seeded and scheduled for teams selected for post tournament play (see also Preliminary Rounds).
xiv. Postponed game - A game not scheduled for the week of its corresponding round.
xv. Preliminary Rounds - The rounds played, seeded and scheduled without any consideration of the team's previous tournament performance (see also Playoff Rounds).
xvi. Red Card - Official notification of a player's action or actions disruptive enough to impose an immediate suspension (see also Yellow Card).
xvii. Reliability Rating - A quantity used to designate players with proven records of problem-free participation.
xviii. Second Contact Deadline - The time, upon expiration of which one of the players has the right to claim a forfeit win if his opponent hasn't posted in the game forum. This usually is every Friday on 2200 FICS time unless specified otherwise (see also First Contact Deadline).
xix. Seed Number - 1) The number given to a team at the beginning of a tournament based on the team average rating at entry. 2) The number given to a team selected for post tournament play based on its performance.
xx. Sign Up Period - The time window when team applications are accepted and lasts for several weeks, as specified by the Chief Tournament Director.
xxi. Team Average Rating - The average of the fixed ratings of the top four players on a team.
xxii. Team Roster - The list of all players on a team for a specific tournament.
xxiii. Time Control - The amount of time each player is alotted for a game. This is expressed with two numbers, the first being the initial time available (in minutes) and the second being the time added after each move (in seconds).
xxiv. Tournament Division - A group of teams competing against each other within a certain section (see also Tournament Section).
xxv. Tournament Section - A set of divisions comprising all the teams within a certain rating limit (see also Tournament Division).
xxvi. Yellow Card - A formal warning to a player that an action or actions of theirs has been deemed disruptive, and another action or actions deemed disruptive by them will warrant a suspension from League activities (see also Red Card).

B. Other terms and phrases not listed above in subsection (A) of this section, which have very specific meanings in FICS TeamLeague, are defined in the statute that relates to that term or phrase. These are not used throughout the body of the By-Laws.
